“I spent a lot of time reading Barclay; searching for the object- defining the substance of an idea, …trying to perceive where an idea truly exists….where I existed.
An in the end one simple phrase summed up all my discoveries and enlightenment; ‘Square peg round hole’.
In the every day sense it just means something doesn’t fit but to me its represents my entire occupation - I dream of impossible tasks to perform and problems to solve. I find commission briefs with the most challenging parameters. I look for inspiration far from the practice that I inhabit. For me the square peg is the metaphoric key to opening the round key hole
I look for inspiration where it is least likely to be found, and the answers are more likely to be found. I follow my instinct, as winding and distracted as it would appear to another and suddenly light dawns and the elements of a solution appear.”
